Lavy says

Coach Peter Laviolette on mixing and matching his lines:

I think every game presents, not different challenges, but different scenarios. You know, when youre protecting a lead youll see different players out on the ice. When you need a goal and there are 12 or 14 minutes to go, you have timeouts involved there, there was three timeouts plus their timeout, plus our timeout, is five timeouts. You know, with 13 minutes on the clock, players are fresh. They want to get back out there so we just kept putting the guys out there that are heavy handed with the offense and trying to find that difference maker.

By the Numbers

16 Road goals for Danny Briere

17 Claude Girouxs shooting percentage

19 Andrej Meszaros plusminus on the road

39 Takeaways for Mike Richards

58.3 Ville Leinos faceoff percentage (42-for-62)

109 Blocked shots for Kimmo Timonen

104 Blocked shots for Matt Carle

136 Hits for Darroll Powe

234 Shots for Jeff Carter

This date in Flyer history

In 1977, rookie Al Hill recorded two goals and three assists for five points as the Flyers edged the St. Louis Blues, 6-4, at the Spectrum. The five points were an NHL record for a player in his first game.

Milestone

New Jersey coach Jacques Lemaire, who came out of retirement to go back behind the Devils bench this season, won his 600th NHL game on Thursday, 2-1, over Toronto in overtime.

Quotable

Lemaire on his 600th win: I didn't know I was that close. Maybe I would've come back before.

Coming up

Strong week for the Flyers as they travel to Florida for back-to-back games against Tampa Bay on Tuesday, and the Panthers on Wednesday. Then its wait until Rod BrindAmour Night on Friday in Carolina as the Hurricanes salute their former captain by retiring his jersey. Flyers then head for New York for Sundays matinee against the Rangers.

Week in Review

CSNPhilly.com readers get to rate the Flyers performances this season. Each week we will post a recap of the past games and what our readers had to say about them, based on the comments posted under the game stories written by myself or Sarah Baicker. Any foul language will result in a game misconduct.

Feb. 10: A 2-1 win over Carolina. The Canes, desperate to cling to their 8th playoff seed, play a tight defensive game against the Flyers but get outworked on special teams as the Flyers break a 0-0 tie in the third period with consecutive power play goals. Boucher almost gets club its first shutout of the season.

Am I the only one who was happy to see Braydon Coburn final get mean and nasty with someone? It was long over due and he needs that PRONGER mean streak with his size.

Subject: PAFCommenter: Flyers DepthPosted: 11:27 a.m., Feb. 11, 2011

Why are the fans that criticize and see need for improvement always targets of supposed better fans that only see greatness from an average team. Now to the Flyers great depth, yes they have won many games this year yet they are far from convincing wins. See headline. They held on to beat Nashville< I believe that was another titled article. If the Flyers depth is so great why do they have to hold on for a majority of victories. A team of 20 crappy players has depth also, just crappy depth. This team hasnt won anything yet, I fear they wont because they dont have a clutch player. Yeah I already know.

Feb. 13: A 1-0 loss to Los Angeles. Flyers are shut out for the fifth time this season as Kings goalie Jonathan Quick makes 40 saves and steals 2 points. Second time in five games that Flyers are shut out at home. Laviolette changes three of his four lines to generate offense. Lots of chances, no finish. Flyers woes on power play continue: just 2 shots among four power plays.

gets the bonehead of the game award!! Why the hell does he keep trying to put Richards and Carter together??? These guys have ZERO chemistry on the ice....ZERO!! Wake up Lavy because you look like a fool by putting them together. This just in...they were on for the only goal of the game...what a shocker!!! Dave Jackson is the worst ref in the league!! He is good for at least one total bonehead call a game(Pronger call today), but you can't blame him for the loss!! That sits firmly on the shoulders of Mr. Laviolette!!

I HATE WHEN THE FLYERS LOSE. So i'm gonna give my thoughts. First off when we pair richards-carter-giroux, it puts all of our eggs in one basket. Making our 3rd line HORRENDOUS, which they were. NODL needs to play on the 4th line. He's a below average Austrian hockey player. JVR should NOT be on the freakin' powerplay. He's a waste and has made NO impact whatsoever. Lastly, Richards needs to start leading by example. He looked either sluggish or freakin hungover the past 3-4 games. Light a fire under everyone's A and start playing some flyers hockey!!! God i hate when the flyers lose...rs of Mr. Laviolette!!

Plays of Week

1: Braydon Coburns several battles with Carolinas Jeff Skinner

2: Danny Brieres goal againt Carolina

3: Brian Bouchers series of saves in the third period

4: Drew Doughtys goal against the Flyers in 1-0 loss to LA.

5: Sergei Bobrovskys save on Wayne Simmonds four minutes into 2nd period.
