NEW YORK -- Mike Richards understands there are things you can draw on for inspiration from how the Flyers pulled themselves out of despair last season and into the playoffs.

Lessons learned and recall, athletes call it.

But Richards wasnt willing to entertain those thoughts after Sundays 7-0 humiliation to the Rangers at The Garden.

A longtime Philadelphia print columnist asked whether last years adversity could help the club right now.

Ive answered this probably 40 times this year, Richards replied. You have some sort of quote on your microphone. We had a 10 game losing streak two years ago. Last year, we had some. Im not going to keep answering the same question every single year.

That said, Richards did say he expects a bounce back game Tuesday against Edmonton on home ice.

Weve done a good job of bouncing back all year, Richards said. This one is a little longer, but weve played well at home and with a little more emotion at home. Were going to need it to right the ship.
Carter ill
Although he played in Saturdays loss against Buffalo, Flyers center Jeff Carter had a re-occurrence of flu symptoms and missed Sundays game against the Rangers.

Carter, who jetted to London, Ont., on Friday after his grandfather died, then quickly returned to play against the Sabres, got sick during warm-ups prior to the Rangers game and left the ice.

Because the team is trying to keep infected players away from those playing, Carter dressed and went home immediately.
No meeting
The Flyers did not have a team meeting after the game, nor did coach Peter Laviolette address his players since he never talks to them immediately after games.

We were pretty much not on our game, start to finish, Laviolette said. The Rangers had better jump, better pop and won the game.
Loose pucks
No goals for Danny Briere in his eighth straight game. He is minus-6 in his last six games.Braydon Coburn was minus-4 and James van Riemsdyk was minus-3. Coburn is minus-7 in his last six games.Rangers outshot the Flyers 14-7 in first period and 36-24 overall. Wonder what the scoring chance gap was.Sean Avery had a second-period goal at 1:46 waved off for kicking the puck in the net.Brian Boucher gave up four goals on 18 shots. In his last two losses, hes been touched for eight goals.Ryan Callahan, who had a career-high five points, could have had five goals. Sergei Bobrovsky had a terrific save on him near the second periods end during a Rangers power play. Now, Callahans fourth goal went to review, but correctly stood.NBC couldnt have been happy with that game, huh?Flyers power play now 3-for-last-35. In this one, they moved the puck better but, at times, were reluctant to shoot.Artem Anisimov had the sixth goal.Mats Zuccarellos second goal at 18:47 of the third ended it. Finally.
