SARASOTA, Fla.Though it wont receive the fanfare given to manager Charlie Manuel, the Phillies could have an official announcement of another contract extension soon.

According to sources, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. has told people that he and the Phillies had reached an agreement on a contract extension.

No official announcement from the team has been given and the terms of the extension are unknown at this time.

Amaro was in the final year of three-year pact signed after the 2008 season. After serving as an assistant general manager to both Ed Wade and Pat Gillick, the former Angels, Phillies and Indians player took over the GM duties in November of 2008.

Amaro announced an extension for Manuel on Thursday for a brand-new three-year deal that will keep the manager with the Phillies through the 2013 season.

The Philadelphia Daily News, on Friday morning, reported that the deal was "lacking just the finishing touches." E-mail John Finger at jfinger@comcastsportsnet.com
