Weve seen this before. We just didnt think wed see it in his first start of the season, with all the hype and great expectations surrounding this pitching staff.

Cole Hamels fell victim to a familiar old bugaboo Tuesday nightthe one-bad-inning syndrome.

I just wasnt able to minimize the damage, Hamels said after the game, a 7-1 loss to the New York Mets on a wintery night at Citizens Bank Park.

OTTAWAThey keep promising theyll flip the switch when it matters most next week as the playoffs begin.

The Flyers have been trying to convince usand themselvesof that for weeks now.

So ask yourself this question: on a night when it was conceivable you could clinch the Atlantic Division title, why would you skate into Scotiabank Place and just go through the motions of a 5-2 loss to the Senators?

Thats 13 losses (and four straight) over the last 19 games for Peter Laviolettes club. Last year, the Flyers lost eight of their final 12 going into the postseason.

Celtics 99, Sixers 82

BOSTON -- They couldnt play much better in the first half. They couldnt play much worse in the second. And with the playoffs less than two weeks away, the Sixers realize that one terrific half just isnt enough to topple the NBAs best teams.

The Celtics scored the first nine points of the third quarter and held the Sixers without a basket on 15 consecutive possessions, turning a tight game into a 99-82 rout at TD Garden Tuesday night in a possible first-round playoff preview.

The Sixers led 49-47 with 1:24 left in the second quarter on a Jodie Meeks three-pointer from the left corner. The Celtics then outscored the Sixers 7-1 the rest of the first half and opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 13-point lead.
