Timing is everything.
And for the Flyers, it appears as though the timing of the NHL's salary bump for next season is going to benefit them immediately.
TSN reported on Monday that NHL clubs and player agents are being told by league officials that the salary cap is moving to 64 million next seasona nearly 5 million jump.
The Flyers have not been officially notified about the new cap figure, according to a club source, but expect to hear the news at the Board of Governors meeting this week.
That means the Flyers wont have to move as much player salary as anticipated in order to sign goalie Ilya Bryzgalov to a long-term deal. The two sides are expected to resume talks on Tuesday.
Bryzalgov is expected to draw an annual salary of 6 million or so against the cap. The Flyers have less than 450,000 in available cap space for next season under the present figure of 59.4 million.

Thats where the tagging issue comes into play for teams that want to re-sign players right now for next season. They dont have the room, which is why the Flyers were thinking theyd have to clear about 5 million in salary.
Now with the new figures, they will be less taxed to lose significant player salary and they pick up additional money to re-sign some of their own players, such as Darroll Powe.
Theres still an issue: The Flyers cant announce a deal for Bryzgalov until June 30 when the new cap figure for 2011-12 officially falls into place.
They will still have to make some kind of trade or trades at this weekends NHL draft in Minnesota if they intend to sign Bryzgalov before he becomes a free agent on July 1.
