My Favorite Flyer Part 1: 1967-1979

Share

This is the first in a series of polls where you, the fans, get to pick an All-Time Flyers roster.

Each week for the next six weeks, you will select from a culled group by era. You can even write in your own votes by leaving a comment below.

The players will be presented by era. For instance, well start with 1967-78, the Flyers' inaugural season, and go through 1978-79. Then we hit the 80s, 90s, etc. Four decades, four weeks of voting by era 'til we get to the next round.

Youll vote by position. At the very end, Week 5, the winners from each era will compete for the All-Time Team.

The three highest vote-getters will be our First Team All-Flyers, followed by our Second Team and Third Team. The final groups will be announced in Week 6.

Here is our first group of players. Select one player for each position:

1967-1979

Left Wing
Ross Lonsberry: Played 6 years as a Flyer and found success on a line with Rick MacLeish and Gary Dornhoefer.

Bill Barber: One of the all-time good guys on the famed LCB line with Reggie Leach and Bobby Clarke.

Dave Schultz: Toughest Flyer enforcer of them all and holds the all-time, single-season penalty minute record of 472. Also holds No. 4 all-time (405).

Bob Kelly: The lovable Hound had grit, toughness and scoring ability with 296 points as a Flyer.

Center
Andre Lacroix: An Original Flyer who was their first top faceoff man and consistent 20-goal scorer.

Bobby Clarke: The greatest Flyer of all time, he played every game like there was no tomorrow and still holds the mark for games played as a Flyer1,144.

Rick MacLeish: Had the big goal in Game 6 to give the Flyers the '74 Cup over Boston.

Mel Bridgman: Among his legacy moments was his series head-to-head play against Phil Esposito in the 1980 playoffs against the Rangers.

Right Wing
Simon Nolet: Former All-Star and Original Flyer, played on the Fench Line with Lacroix and Jean Guy Gendron.

Gary Dornhoefer: Will always be known for his overtime goal in the playoffs against Minnesota in 1973. Original Flyer.

Reggie Leach: The Rifle had a shot like no other and was part of that fearsome LCB Line of the 1970s.

Defensemen
Ed Van Impe: This Original Flyer had the hit on Valeri Kharlamov in the '76 Super Series that caused the Soviets to walk off the ice.

Joe Watson: Smart, savvy, tough original Flyer defenseman who was thick and played the game hard.

Moose Dupont: Liked to smoke cigarettes after games in his skivvies and never saw a penalty he wouldnt take to win.

Tom Bladon: Overlooked by many, he remains the third-leading scorer among Flyer defensemen (230 points).

Goalie
Doug Favell: A fan favorite with a sense of humor, he played 215 games in Flyer colors.

Bernie Parent: No one ever saved more between the pipes. He single-handedly delivered the first Cup.

Wayne Stephenson: Many people fail to realize he was the guy in net when the Flyers defeated the Soviets in 1976.
