CHICAGOPhillies ace Roy Halladay left Monday nights game against the Chicago Cubs in the bottom of the fifth inning because of the heat. Halladay left the mound with head athletic trainer Scott Sheridan by his side. Drew Carpenter replaced Halladay and was given as long as he needed to warm up.
Halladay allowed three runs on seven hits throughout four-plus innings of work and left trailing 3-1.
The game time temperature at Wrigley Field was 91 degrees and the humidity was oppressive. Halladay was drenched with sweat by the third inning. In that third inning, he hunched over his knees twice, as if trying to get a breather. He did not appear right throughout his time on the mound.
Halladay opened the game wearing an undershirt with red sleeves. When he came out for the fourth inning, the undershirt was gone.
Halladays streak of 63 consecutive road starts with at least six innings is over.
