Will DeSean show up to camp? Vick isn't sure

DeSean Jackson, the Eagles electrifying big-play touchdown machine, is considering not reporting for the start of training camp Wednesday, quarterback Michael Vick said Tuesday morning.

Although he did make it clear Jackson is considering holding out to protest his lack of a contract that pays him as one of the NFLs top receivers, Vick also said he does think Jackson will show up at Lehigh University in Bethlehem when players are due on Wednesday afternoon.

Vick said he spoke with Jackson on Monday and Jackson indicated that hes not sure what hes going to do.

Were trying to figure out whats going to happen, Vick said Tuesday, after the Eagles opened the NovaCare Complex up to signed players. Hopefully, hell be here tomorrow. DeSean just has some things to think about and some decisions to make that only himself can make.

I just dont know what hell do. Just being realistic about the situation. Its all in what DeSean wants. Were rooting for him, and hopefully hell be here, and I think he will.

Jackson is entering the final year of his rookie contract, a deal that makes him the most underpaid player in the NFL. Jackson is due 565,000 this year on the final year of a four-year deal worth 3.486365 million.

His 2011 base salary is 28th-highest on the roster -- and thats before any of the draft picks have signed. Among those who are due to earn more in base salary this year are Riley Cooper, Clay Harbor, Keenan Clayton and Trevard Lindley.

The Eagles have said they plan to take care of Jackson when the time is right, but hes now just a few months away from becoming an unrestricted free agent if the Eagles dont sign him.

Jackson has already scored 12 touchdown of 60 yards or more in three seasons. No player in NFL history has scored more before his 24th birthday. Hall of Famer Gale Sayers also scored 12.

Jackson, who turns 25 in December, has 172 catches for 3,135 yards and 17 touchdowns receiving in three seasons, and hes returned four punts for touchdowns.

Its part of the NFL, Vick said. Its a business. Certain things have to happen. Well just see how the situation plays out.
