BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- For the 91 players in Eagles training camp, this was Christmas in August.

They get to leave a day early.

Head coach Andy Reid told his players Monday morning that instead of breaking camp after a Wednesday morning walkthrough, the team will now break camp after practice on Tuesday morning.

Oh man, were all so happy, defensive end Darryl Tapp said. He threw us a bone.

The original training camp schedule had the Eagles going through two practices on Tuesdayat 8:05 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.and then a brief walkthrough, or mock game, at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. The players would be free to leave after that walkthrough.

But Reid canceled the Wednesday walkthrough and the Tuesday afternoon practice and shortened the Tuesday morning practice from the usual 2 12 hours to about 1 12 hours with just shells. The workout is still open to the public but will be over somewhere around 9:30 a.m. The players will then be off until the charter to Pittsburgh boards Wednesday afternoon.

They have worked their tails off up here, and its a little different schedule this year that weve had, and I feel like theyve given everything theyve got, Reid said Monday, after signing autographs for U.S. servicemen for more than 45 minutes following morning practice. They deserve a day off, and this is their day off.

Reid said the coaches will condense everything that would have been covered Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning and work it into Tuesdays morning session.

Well do it all tomorrow, he said. Get it done and then well see them when the flights ready to take off.

The Eagles face the Steelers at Heinz Field at 8 p.m. Thursday and then reconvene at the NovaCare Complex on Saturday for one-a-day practices.

The effort up here was phenomenal, Reid said of the Eagles three-week stay at Lehigh. We got a lot accomplished. Weve still got a ways to go, but well get back to the NovaCare Complex and take care of the rest of it.
