Starting Pitchers
Phillies: Cole Hamels (13-7, 2.62 ERA) will make his first start since Aug. 12, and first since a brief stint on the disabled list. In that last outing against the Nationals, he allowed three runs, six hits and an uncharacteristically high four walks in just five innings of a 4-2 loss.

Reds: Getting the ball for Cincinnati is right-hander Homer Bailey (7-5, 4.44). In Wednesdays 6-5 loss to Florida, Bailey gave up three runs and five hits in seven innings. Hes struggled historically against the Phillies, with an 0-2 record and 7.00 ERA in four startsalbeit, all of them at Citizens Bank Park.

Previous games
Hurricane Irene washed out the Phillies weekend, and they havent played since Fridays 6-5 loss to the Marlins.The Reds have won four in a row after a weekend sweep against the Nationals that concluded with Sundays 5-4 win, thanks to Joey Vottos walkoff shot in the 14th inning.

Head-to-head
The Phillies, who swept the Reds in the NLDS last October, took three of four from the Reds at home when the teams met in late May. Tonight is the first of a four-game series.

Whos hot?
Hamels has dominated the Reds in his career, going 7-0 with a 1.43 ERA.In his last nine games, Votto has six home runs and 13 RBIs, but is just 2-for-16 all-time against Hamels.

Storylines
Hamels will be under the microscope after dealing with a dead arm after his last start which sent him to the DL.The Phillies have no more days off this season, and are beginning a stretch of 33 games in 31 days.Philadelphia is trying to avoid losing their third straight game for the first time since they dropped four in a row from May 31June 4.
