Projecting the Eagles' final 53-man roster

Share

The Eagles roster stands at 80 and must be cut to 53 by Saturday at 6 p.m. Heres a guesstimate of the final 53.

Quarterbacks (three)
Michael Vick, Vince Young, Mike Kafka

Notable cut: none

Running backs (four)
LeSean McCoy, Ronnie Brown, Dion Lewis and fullback Owen Schmitt

Notable cut: Eldra Buckley, a quality special-teamer and backup RB who spent the last two seasons with the Eagles.

Wide receivers (six)
DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant, Riley Cooper, Steve Smith and Sinorice Moss (returner).

Notable cut: Chad Hall, who joined the Eagles last year as a free agent and twice fumbled in Thursdays preseason victory over the Jets, and Johnnie Lee Higgins, a fifth-year veteran who signed on the same day as Nnamdi Asomugha.

Tight ends (three)
Brent Celek, Donald Lee (who also signed the same day as Asomugha) and Clay Harbor

Notable cut: Cornelius Ingram. Hope he lands on the practice squad.

Offensive linemen (10)
Jason Peters, Evan Mathis, Jason Kelce, Danny Watkins, Todd Herremans, King Dunlap, Reggie Wells, Ryan Harris, Julian Vandervelde and Jamaal Jackson.

The Eagles decide to keep Jackson, the last remaining player from the Super Bowl squad (he was on injured reserve). Jackson lost the starting job to Kelce, the rookie sixth-round pick out of Cincinnati.

Harris, who recently had back surgery, could end up on injured reserve, in which case he wouldnt take up a roster spot.

Winston Justice (knee) likely will start on the reservephysically unable to perform list (he has yet to practice since the start of camp) and not take up a roster spot. Hed be eligible to return between Weeks 7 and 13.

Notable cut: Mike McGlynn (see Reuben Frank's story), who started at center last season for the injured Jackson. The Eagles selected McGlynn in the fourth round of the 2008 draft.

Defensive linemen (nine)
Ends: Trent Cole, Jason Babin, Darryl Tapp and Anthony Hargrove (who can play both inside and outside). Tackles: Mike Patterson, Cullen Jenkins, Antonio Dixon, Trevor Laws and Derek Landri.

Brandon Graham (knee) opens on the PUP list.

Notable cuts: The 31-year-old Juqua Parker, who spent the last six seasons with the Eagles but was hampered by a calf injury throughout the preseason. Parkers cap number is 4.3 million this season, too. Daniel Teo-Nesheim, a third-round pick last year, also is looking for work.

Former CFL standout Phillip Hunt, whose name you heard mentioned frequently against the Jets, lands on the practice squad.

Linebackers (five)
Jamar Chaney, Casey Matthews, Moise Fokou, Keenan Clayton and rookie Brian Rolle.

Notable cut: Veteran Akeem Jordan, who spent the last four seasons with the Eagles after making the team in 2007 as an undrafted rookie.

Don't be surprised if the Eagles add a veteran here.

Defensive backs (10)
Corners: Nnamdi Asomugha, Asante Samuel, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Curtis Marsh and Brandon Hughes.

Safeties: Kurt Coleman, Jarrad Page, Nate Allen, Jaiquawn Jarrett and special teams standout Colt Anderson.

Notable cut: CB Trevard Lindley, a fourth-round pick in last years draft.

Traded: Veteran and good guy Joselio Hanson.

Special teams (three)
Kicker: Alex Henery
Punter: Chas Henry
Long-snapper: Jon Dorenbos
