Utley cleared to play; Rollins back in lineup

HOUSTONTests on Chase Utley were normal Monday and the Phillies second baseman will be available to play when the team returns home on Thursday.

Utley sustained a concussion when he was hit in the head by a pitch last Wednesday night.

Utley had been cleared to do light exercise after a test on Saturday. After Mondays test, he was deemed fully recovered and cleared to resume baseball activities.

The Phillies play a doubleheader against Florida on Thursday. It is unclear if Utley will play Thursday or if the team will ease him back into action over the weekend.

Rollins returns
After missing 18 starts with a strained right groin muscle, Jimmy Rollins is back in the lineup playing shortstop and batting leadoff for the Phillies as they open a three-game series with the Houston Astros on Monday night.

The Phillies typically take it slow with players returning from injury so Rollins will likely play the first two games of the series then get a day off.

Third baseman Placido Polanco is not in the lineup for Monday nights game. He is just getting a routine day off.

Here is the Phils lineup against Astros righthander Brett Myers:

Jimmy Rollins SS

Shane Victorino CF

Hunter Pence RF

Ryan Howard 1B

Raul Ibanez LF

Carlos Ruiz C

Pete Orr 2B

Michael Martinez 3B

Roy Oswalt P

Kendrick to pitch
Manager Charlie Manuel said Kyle Kendrick would likely start one of the games in Thursday's doubleheader against Florida in Philadelphia.
