Shelley to have hearing on Boyce hit Thursday

Jody Shelley was sitting at his dressing room stall at Skate Zone looking nervous as Danny Briere approached.

You should send Brendan Shanahan an edible arrangement of chocolate strawberries, Briere said.

Shelley looked up.

Does that work for you, Danny? Shelley asked.

Shelley will have a hearing sometime today with Shanahan, the NHLs new czar of discipline, about the boarding hit on Torontos Darryl Boyce that occurred during Wednesdays 4-2 loss to the Maple Leafs.

Shelley drew a deserved five-minute major and was tossed from the game.

If I were the disciplinarian, that would work for me, Briere said of his strawberry bribe.

Kidding aside, Shelley said he understood the situation is serious.

I dont know, Shelley replied when asked about whether he anticipates a suspension.

He is a repeat offender and has been suspended for board calls in the past.

Does he think he deserves a suspension?

No, but its something to be looked at, he said. I dont know. I really dont know.

The Flyers held a brief morning practice before the team left for London, Ont., for Thursday's game against Detroit.

Coach Peter Laviolette said that he would not speculate on what he might have to do to his roster if Shelley is suspended.

Obviously, heavyweight enforcer Tom Sesisto could fill Shelleys spot.

Were going to look at these guys, anyway, Laviolette said of other prospects, adding many of the Flyers veterans would stay behind for this game while many of the prospects and Phantoms would make the trip to Canada.
