Bobrovsky to start vs. Rangers

NEW YORK -- If Peter Laviolette wanted to send a message to goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, its safe to say the message has been received.

Sergei Bobrovsky is making his second straight start on a back-to-back this afternoon against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Bobrovsky was sensational in overtime against the Islanders that allowed the Flyers to steal two points on Wednesday in a comeback effort and 4-3 victory at Uniondale, N.Y.

He was superb in the first period of Black Fridays 3-1 win over Montreal, keeping the listless Flyers in a game they trailed 1-0 and could have been blown out.

In both outings, he bought the Flyers time and they rewarded him with points.

During his pregame address to the media, Laviolette did not elaborate on why Bobrovsky was getting the start. Then again, it seemed obvious.

Bryzgalov played poorly against Carolina and also had a couple suspect goals against the Islanders before Bobrovsky relieved him.

Since taking over the Flyers in December of 2009, Laviolette has had a penchant for sticking with a goalie who has the hot hand, even if it means going back-to-back.
