Eagles-Cowboys: What the (cough) experts say

Ray Didinger

This is a huge game for both teams. The Eagles can climb back into the NFC East race if they beat Dallas. The Cowboys have a very favorable schedule after this game and could go on a long run if they win Sunday.

I just cant see the Eagles losing a sixth straight game at home, especially to their biggest rival with so much on the line.

The Dallas defense is very good, but the Eagles' offense, with the o-line intact for the first time this year, will be OK. The matchup that really scares me is the Dallas offense vs. the Eagles' defense. Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Demarco Murray, Dez Bryant and Co. are going facing an Eagles defense that did hold the Redskins to 13 points going into the bye but has yet to slow down a decent offense. Dallas has more weapons than the Eagles have seen yet this year, and it's going to be too much for an Eagles defense that still has a lot of holes in it.

The Cowboys present matchup problems for the Eagles across the board. Offensively and defensively, there are mismatches that I don't think the Eagles can overcome.

I picked against the Eagles when they played the 'Skins and they proved me wrong. They'll get another chance this week. The Cowboys have a ton of fire power on offense and I'm not sold on that Eagles' D after one good showing against Rex Grossman and the Redskins.

Wow, this is longer than the others combined.

So heres a question. Or three.

Was the their victory over Washington something to build on, and if so, can the Eagles do it? Did the Eagles actually force Rex Grossman to the bench, or did he bench himself? Did tightening the wide nine really help stop the run, or did the run defense look good because Tim Hightower didnt play?

I might be crazy, but Im sticking to the formers (well, except for maybe the Grossman part).

This team is a good team thats still learning how to play like one. And now its getting two of its best players back in defensive end Trent Cole and tackle Jason Peters.

Whats more, this team is coming off a bye week, and in case you somehow haven't heard this stat yet, Andy Reid is unbeaten in the game after the bye week (12-0).

So theyre rested, and the coaches have had ample time to prepare. While they watched the film of the Cowboys easy win over the Rams, lets see if they noticed the same thing Ray Didinger and Brian Baldinger did (see story) and decide to man up their sticky corners on Dallas receivers, who cant pry away from press coverage.

If their corners are as good as theyre supposed to be and if Jason Witten doesnt catch 10 balls for 100 yards and three TDs and if DeMarco Murray is DeMarco Murry instead of Tony Dorsett and if the offense holds on to the ball, then the Eagles will end their five-game Linc losing streak.
