Starting pitchers

Phillies: RHP Roy Halladay (0-0, 1.50)In the season opener, Halladay allowed a run on five hits in six innings but received a no-decision in the Phils comeback victory over Houston. He struck out six, including four of the first six batters he faced.

Mets: LHP Jonathon Niese (0-0, 2.57 ERA)Niese allowed two runs and four hits over seven innings but received a no-decision in his last start, a 6-4 Mets win over Florida. Niese went 1 for 1 with a 2.14 ERA in three starts against the Phillies last season, striking out 20 over 21 innings. The Mets scored only two runs in his final two starts.

Series update
After dropping the first game of the three-game series, the Phils rebounded Wednesday night. They squandered a 7-0 lead before winning 10-7.

Trends
Halladay is 6-2 lifetime against the Mets with a 3.86 ERA. He went 4-0 with a 2.56 ERA in four starts against them last year, pitching at least seven innings each time while walking two and striking out 28.

However, Mets shortstop Jose Reyes is 8 for 19 with three doubles and two triples against Halladay.

Ryan Howard, who went 4 for 4 in Wednesdays 10-7 victory and is hitting .524 with two home runs and eight RBIs, is only 1 for 6 with two strikeouts career against Niese.

Among the Phillies starters, Carlos Ruiz has had the most success against Niese (3 for 9).

Mets: Jason Bay (strained intercostal, left ribcage) and Johan Santana (recovery from left shoulder surgery) are on the 15-day DL.
