Carlos Ruiz took the next step toward rejoining the Phillies.

Ruiz caught all seven innings for Single A Clearwater in a 7-2 road loss to the Bradenton Marauders on Thursday night. Ruiz, who had been out of action since June 26, went 0 for 3.

Ruiz, who batted sixth for the Clearwater Threshers, grounded out to the pitcher in the first inning, grounded out to shortstop in the fourth and struck out swinging in the seventh.

Ruiz was hit in the head by a pitch in the 11th inning of a Marlins-Phillies game on June 26. Ruiz stayed in the game, which the Phillies eventually won in the 14th inning, but felt concussion symptoms the following day. Tests confirmed that Ruiz did indeed suffer a concussion. He hadn't played since. He is expected to rejoin the Phillies in the coming days.

In 66 games this season, Ruiz is hitting .257 with a .363 on-base percentage.
