Cole Hamels appears ready to make his 2014 Phillies debut.

Hamels on Thursday shined in a rehab start with the Clearwater Threshers against Lakeland. He allowed one run -- a homer -- in seven innings on three hits, two strikeouts and one walk.

The 30-year-old could make his season debut next week when the Phillies are in Los Angeles for three games with the Dodgers.

"I would say that’s a distinct possibility,” Phillies assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said Wednesday (see story).

Expected to be the Phils' opening-day starter, Hamels battled shoulder fatigue throughout spring training and opened the year on the disabled list.
