BOX SCORE

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Phillies surrendered seven runs in the sixth inning to blow an early lead and fell 7-2 to the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night, suffering their fourth loss in five games.

The Angels (69-49) sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth to erase the Phillies' 2-0 lead.

The Phillies (53-67) have lost eight straight to the Angels dating back to 2003.

Starting pitching report
Jerome Williams lasted 5 1/3 innings in his Phillies debut, allowing five hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.

The 32-year-old right-hander, claimed off waivers from Texas on Sunday, shut out the Angels for the first five innings but ran into trouble in the sixth. Kole Calhoun led off the inning with a home run and Williams was pulled after allowing a hard line-drive single to Albert Pujols two batters later. Williams received a no-decision.

The Angels' C.J. Wilson pitched 6 2/3 innings, gave up seven hits and two runs, walked two and struck out two to pick up the win. He entered with an 11.03 ERA in his previous six starts.

Bullpen report
Antonio Bastardo relieved Williams and gave up four hits and five runs (four earned) in 1/3 of an inning. He allowed five of the six batters he faced to reach base and took the loss.

Jake Diekman wasn’t charged with a run, but allowed an inherited runner to score in the sixth after relieving Bastardo.

Mario Hollands and Cesar Jimenez stopped the bleeding with a scoreless inning of relief apiece.

Fernando Salas and Jason Grilli combined for 2 1/3 innings of no-hit relief for the Angels.

At the plate
Darin Ruf went 2 for 3 and was the only Phillie with multiple hits. Ben Revere went 1 for 4 with a single and has a hit in 15 of his last 17 games.

Calhoun went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs to lead the Angels. Howie Kendrick went 2 for 4, scored once and drove in the tying run.

In the field
Marlon Byrd flat-out missed the ball trying to make a running catch in the right-field corner in the sixth, resulting in a go-ahead RBI double for the Angels instead of the third out of the inning. He wasn’t charged with an error on the play, but was under the ball and didn’t get any part of his glove on it. He was charged with a throwing error later in the inning.

Up next
The Phillies wrap up their two-game set with the Angels Wednesday night and have an off day Thursday.

A.J Burnett (6-12, 4.29) faces Jered Weaver (12-7, 3.68 ERA) in the series finale.
