The Milwaukee Brewers completed a four-game sweep of the Phillies on Thursday night.

The Phillies battled back from an early deficit to force extra innings. They lost the game, 8-7, in 11 innings. Jonathan Lucroy led off the 11th with a double against Luis Garcia and scored on a base hit by Adam Lind.

The sweep was the Brewers’ first of the season. They have the second-worst record in the majors at 33-48. The Phillies reached the mathematical halfway point of the season with the majors' worst record at 27-54.

The Phillies trailed 4-0 early and 7-4 entering the seventh. They rallied for three runs against Milwaukee’s bullpen in that inning to tie the game on a hit by Freddy Galvis.

Phillies starting pitching recorded an ERA of 9.00 in the four-game series, and that was with Cole Hamels’ seven-inning, two-run performance in the second game.

Starting pitching report
Chad Billingsley returned from the disabled list (strained lat muscle) and was hit hard in his first big-league start since May 15. The right-hander gave up 10 hits and seven runs (six earned) over five innings of work.

Phillies starting pitchers gave up double-digit hits in three of the four games. Sean O’Sullivan gave up 12 hits in five innings on Monday night, and Aaron Harang was tagged for a career-high 14 hits in five-plus innings on Wednesday night.

Milwaukee starter Matt Garza gave up 10 hits and four runs over six innings. He exited with a 7-4 lead, but the bullpen did not hold it.

Milwaukee reliever Michael Blazek got the win with two scoreless innings of relief and Francisco Rodriguez registered his 18th save and third of the series.

Jonathan Papelbon pitched two scoreless innings for the Phillies.

Jonathan Broxton and Will Smith could not hold a three-run Milwaukee lead in the seventh.

At the plate
The Phillies had 16 hits. Galvis, Cesar Hernandez and Cody Asche all had three hits. Asche had a two-run homer in the second inning.

Ryan Howard and Ben Revere both drove in runs with hits during the Phils’ three-run seventh.

Milwaukee had 16 hits. Lucroy and Jean Segura both had three. Milwaukee had 59 hits in the four games.

In the field
Brewers leftfielder Gerardo Parra made a diving catch in the gap to steal a hit from Maikel Franco in the seventh inning.

Transaction
The Phillies placed right-hander Harang on the disabled list with a foot issue (see story). The right-hander lost his eighth straight start on Wednesday night. His ERA over his last six starts in 8.31.
