ST. LOUIS -- The Phillies’ free fall continued in a 3-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Thursday night.

The Cardinals swept the three-game series by a combined score of 18-5.

The Phillies have matched a season-high five-game losing streak to fall to 49-53. They are 1-5 after the all-star break. They trail NL East leader Atlanta by eight games. The Braves lost on Thursday.

The Phils move on to face AL Central leader Detroit on Friday night.

Starting pitching report
Kyle Kendrick (9-7) gave up five hits and three runs in six innings of work. He walked two and struck out one. All three of the runs that Kendrick allowed came in the third inning. He gave up four hits in that inning, including an RBI triple to Jon Jay.

Right-hander Lance Lynn (12-5) snapped a two-game losing streak. He held the Phils to one run over seven innings.

Bullpen report
Antonio Bastardo pitched two scoreless innings for the Phils and struck out three.

Trevor Rosenthal and Edward Mujica closed it out for the Cardinals.

At the plate
The Phillies out-hit the Cards, 7-5, but four of the Cards’ hits came in one inning.

Jimmy Rollins, Erik Kratz and John Mayberry Jr. accounted for six of the Phillies’ hits.

The Phillies have scored just five runs in their last four games.

Transaction
The Phils placed Domonic Brown on the seven-day disabled list with concussion-like symptoms. Steve Susdorf was brought up from Triple A. He grounded into a double play, but hit the ball hard in his first big-league at-bat, a pinch-hitting appearance in the seventh.
