BOX SCORE

The Phillies scored six runs off of the majors' ERA leader, but still lost the game and series, 10-8, to the Dodgers on Thursday afternoon.

Before the first out of the game was recorded, the Phillies got to Zack Greinke for five runs, as many as he had allowed in his previous 59 innings.

But David Buchanan was unable to hold the lead, resulting in the Phils' first series loss since the All-Star break. They are 5-1-1 in seven second-half series.

Maikel Franco made things exciting with a two-run double in the ninth off Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen. Ryan Howard's single put the tying run on first with one out, but Domonic Brown's line smash down the first-base line was caught by Adrian Gonzalez, who stepped on first for the game-ending double play.

The Phils are 42-67; the Dodgers are 62-46.

Starting pitching report
Buchanan looked like his April self in the first inning, getting two quick outs and then falling apart. After a popout and a flyout to begin the game, the Dodgers went single, walk, double, single to plate three runs.

Buchanan was given a two-run lead when the Phillies scored five in the first, but gave it right back on a three-run homer by Gonzalez in the second.

Buchanan (2-6, 7.23) allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits over four innings, needing 81 pitches. Phillies starting pitchers went just 14 innings total in the three-game series, allowing 12 runs and 33 baserunners.

Greinke allowed a season-high six runs over six innings and his ERA jumped from 1.41 to 1.71. The six runs were the most he's allowed in 89 starts.

Perhaps the Phillies learned some lessons from their previous meeting with Greinke. He faced them at Dodger Stadium just before the All-Star break and allowed one hit over eight shutout innings.

Bullpen report
Justin De Fratus pitched a scoreless fifth inning but his 2015 struggles continued in a three-run sixth. His ERA is 5.37 in 48 appearances.

Newcomer Dalier Hinojosa pitched three scoreless innings with five strikeouts to help save the Phillies' bullpen. The 29-year-old Cuban has allowed just two baserunners in five shutout innings since joining the Phils at the end of July.

At the plate
Brown capped the first-inning rally with a three-run home run to right field, his third of the season. Brown added an RBI single in his next at-bat. It was his first four-RBI day since May 30, 2014.

Franco reached base in four of five plate appearances, singling to center, working the only two walks issued by Greinke, and later adding the two-run double. Franco is hitting .286 with 21 doubles, 12 homers, 47 RBIs and an .841 OPS.

Howard went 2 for 5 with a two-run single, giving him 62 RBIs on the season and 25 in his last 23 games.

Odubel Herrera was 3 for 5 with three singles. He's gone 37 for 94 (.394) over his last 28 games to raise his batting average from .243 to .288.

For the Dodgers, Jimmy Rollins went 1 for 5 with a double in his final game at Citizens Bank Park this season. He narrowly missed a two-run homer when the ball bounced off the very top of the right-field scoreboard.

Rollins was 3 for 13 in the series with two doubles, two runs and two walks.

Greinke helped himself with a three-hit day that included the fifth home run of his major-league career. He also singled twice and scored three runs.

Only two pitchers in the majors in the last 10 years have gone 3 for 3 with a homer and both have come against the Phillies this season: Greinke on Friday and Noah Syndergaard on May 27.

In the field
Franco made a diving stop on a Greinke grounder to start the sixth but his throw to first was wide. Had he popped up and fired an accurate throw to Howard, the whole inning could have been different. The Dodgers went on to score three in the frame.

Cody Asche, running full speed, made a sliding catch against the wall in foul ground in left field to retire Andre Ethier in the ninth.

Roster moves
After Thursday afternoon's game, the Phillies announced they will activate Chase Utley from the 15-day disabled list and select the contract of left-handed pitcher Adam Loewen from Triple A Lehigh Valley (see story). To make room on the roster, the Phillies optioned right-hander Dalier Hinojosa and outfielder Jordan Danks to Lehigh Valley.

Up next
The Phillies hit the road for a nine-game trip. They'll play three-game series in San Diego, Arizona and Milwaukee.
