BOX SCORE

MIAMI – The Phillies’ modest three-game winning streak came to an end in a 14-5 loss to the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.

Kyle Kendrick had a rough start as his losing streak reached 10 straight decisions, dating to August of last season.

The Phillies had plenty of base runners as they had 14 hits and two walks, but they were just 2 for 13 with runners in scoring position.

The Phils are 20-23.

Miami (24-23) has the best home record in the majors at 18-6.

The game was played in a crisp three hours, 39 minutes.

Starting pitching report
Kendrick allowed seven hits and six runs over 5 2/3 innings. Two of the runs came in the first inning. In nine starts this season, Kendrick has allowed nine earned runs in the first inning.

Kendrick is 0-5 with a 4.53 ERA. In four starts this month, he is 0-3 with a 5.76 ERA.

Miami’s Nathan Eovaldi (3-2) gave up 10 hits over six innings. He allowed three runs, but just one was earned.

Bullpen report
Jeff Manship had a tough night. He allowed three hits and a walk in one inning of work. One of the hits was a grand slam by Marcell Ozuna.

Forgotten man Luis Garcia pitched the bottom of the eighth inning for the Phillies. It was his first work since May 8 and he was predictably rusty. Garcia allowed three hits, four walks and four runs. He needed 49 pitches to complete the inning.

At the plate
Jimmy Rollins stayed hot. He had a double and a single, giving him 2,217 hits for his career. He is tied with Richie Ashburn for second place on the Phillies’ all-time list and is 18 shy of breaking Mike Schmidt’s team record. Rollins is 6 for 18 in the leadoff spot the last five games.

The Phillies were down 10-3 in the eighth when Domonic Brown connected for a two-run homer, his third of the season.

Manager Ryne Sandberg allowed Kendrick to hit away twice with men on base and both times the pitcher grounded into a double play.

Miami was 8 for 16 with runners in scoring position.

Derek Dietrich doubled and tripled for Miami.

Ozuna put the game out of reach with a grand slam off Manship in the seventh.

In the field
Marlins rightfielder Giancarlo Stanton saved at least two runs when he made a diving catch on a bases-loaded line drive by Cody Asche to end the top of the fifth. The Marlins were up, 5-3, at the time.

Transaction
Darin Ruf was recalled from Triple A as Cliff Lee went on the disabled list. Ruf’s stay could be brief as the Phillies will need a roster spot to add a pitcher on Saturday (see story).

Up next
Cole Hamels (1-2, 4.40) opposes Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez (2-3, 3.62) in the series finale on Thursday afternoon.
