BOX SCORE

MIAMI – The Phillies could not hold a one-run lead in the 10th inning and suffered a 4-3 loss to the Miami Marlins in 11 innings Wednesday night.

It was the Phils’ 95th loss off the season. They have the worst record in the majors.

Dee Gordon’s RBI double with two outs in the 11th won it for the Marlins.

Ken Giles allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the 10th as he blew the save. The Phillies’ defense fell apart in the inning. Giles failed to make a play on a bunt and Carlos Ruiz threw a ball away to allow the tying run to score.

Gordon’s game-winning hit came against Jerome Williams.

Starting pitching report
David Buchanan went five innings and gave up two runs, one of which was unearned. He allowed seven hits, including a home run. He left trailing, 2-1.

Rookie lefty Adam Conley, the Marlins’ second-round pick in the 2011 draft, gave up just three hits and a run over six-plus innings. He walked one and struck out eight.

Earlier in the day, Conley was named the Marlins’ minor-league pitcher of the year. He was 9-3 with a 2.52 ERA in 18 starts at Triple A New Orleans before coming to the majors.

Bullpen report
The Phillies got four scoreless innings from their bullpen — Adam Loewen, Jeanmar Gomez, Luis Garcia and Hector Neris — before Giles blew his first save since taking over as the closer when Jonathan Papelbon was traded in late July.

Giles, who had been 13 for 13 in save chances as the closer, allowed a leadoff single in the 10th. He then failed to get an out on a bunt that went for an infield hit. The Marlins scored the tying run on an error by catcher Ruiz.

Bryan Morris came on for Miami after Conley allowed a leadoff hit in the seventh. He hit the first batter he faced, but recovered to get three quick outs and maintain the Marlins’ one-run lead.

Mike Dunn’s wild pitch in the eighth proved costly as it allowed the Phillies to score the tying run from third base.

Brian Ellington got the win.

At the plate
Darin Ruf singled in the fifth inning and scored the Phillies’ first run on a double-play ball. The Phils tied the game in the top of the eighth. Erik Kratz stroked a pinch-hit double, moved up on a ground ball and won a foot race to the plate on a wild pitch.

In the 10th, Brian Bogusevic reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second base to set the table for Freddy Galvis, who put the Phils ahead, 3-2.

The Marlins scored an unearned run in the second. Justin Bour homered for them in the fourth. The Marlins tied it with another unearned run in the bottom of the 10th.

In the field
The Phillies committed three errors that led to a pair of unearned runs for the Marlins.

Health check
It’s looking more and more doubtful that Maikel Franco (wrist) and Ryan Howard (knee) will play again this season. Franco will play winter ball in the Dominican Republic when he’s 100 percent healthy.

Up next
The series concludes Thursday night. Alec Asher (0-4, 9.78) pitches against Marlins right-hander Jarred Cosart (2-4, 4.43).
