BOX SCORE

NEW YORK – The Phillies continued their losing ways against the New York Mets in a 3-1 defeat Monday night.

Bartolo Colon, the Mets’ 42-year-old right-hander, manhandled the Phillies for the second time in a week.

The Phillies have lost 10 straight to the Mets and are 1-13 against them this season. Dating to last season, the Phils have lost 24 of 29 to the Mets.

The Mets entered the game leading the NL East by 5½ games over the Washington Nationals.

The Phillies are a majors-worst 52-80.

Starting pitching report
Jerad Eickhoff (1-2) had another solid start for the Phillies. He went seven innings and gave up just three runs. He allowed just four hits, but three of them came in one inning and two of them were homers. Eickhoff paid the price for giving up a two-out hit to opposing pitcher Colon in the fifth. Curtis Granderson followed with a two-run homer to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.

Colon pitched eight shutout innings. He allowed four singles, a walk and struck out nine. Seventy-three of his 100 pitches were strikes.

Colon (12-11) has pitched 15 shutout innings in his last two starts, both against the Phillies. He has three walks and 17 strikeouts over that span.

Bullpen report
Jeurys Familia notched his 36th save for the Mets, but not before loading the bases with no outs in the ninth. He got Jeff Francoeur to bounce into a double-play then struck out Andres Blanco, the potential tying run, to end the game.

At the plate
The Phillies had six hits, all singles.

The Mets continued to hit home runs against the Phillies as Michael Conforto and Granderson both went deep in the fifth inning to account for all of that team’s runs.

The Mets hit 13 home runs in a four-game sweep of the Phillies in Philadelphia last week.

Health check
Before the game, assistant general manager Scott Proefrock confirmed the suspected: Injured pitchers Elvis Araujo and Chad Billingsley will not return this season.

Araujo is on the disabled list with a groin strain. The rookie left-handed reliever has been a bright spot and the Phillies don’t want to take any chances rushing him back. He will be ready for spring training.

Billingsley has not pitched since July 18 because of continued elbow problems.

On the plus side, Maikel Franco is expected to start swinging a bat Wednesday and could progress to batting practice and game action in the next week or so. Franco has been out since Aug. 11 with a fractured left wrist.

Roster additions coming
The Phils will add three players from Triple A on Tuesday (see story).

Up next
Aaron Harang (5-14, 4.79) pitches Tuesday night against Mets lefty Jonathon Niese (8-9, 3.95).
