BOX SCORE

NEW YORK – A.J. Burnett did not do his trade value a favor Monday night.

With scouts from pitching-needy teams behind the backstop, Burnett was hit hard in the Phillies’ 7-1 loss to the New York Mets at Citi Field.

Meanwhile, Mets’ starter Bartolo Colon, who could be a trade target for contenders, was impressive in holding the Phillies to one run over 7 2/3 innings.

The Phillies have played 106 games. They have been held to two or fewer runs in 40 of them.

The Phils are 3-7 against the Mets and 46-60 on the season.

Starting pitching report
Burnett had trouble keeping the ball out of the middle of the plate and Mets’ hitters feasted. The right-hander gave up eight hits and seven runs over five innings. Five of the hits that Burnett gave up were for extra bases, including a three-run home run by Travis d’Arnaud with two outs in the fifth inning. Burnett extended that inning with a two-out walk, followed by a single.

Burnett is 6-10 with 4.15 ERA in 23 starts.

The 41-year-old Colon allowed 10 hits but just two of them were for extra bases. Both the extra-base hits came in the eighth inning when the Phils scored their lone run.

Colon (10-8) walked just one and struck out six.

Bullpen report
Mario Hollands pitched two scoreless innings for the Phils. Phillippe Aumont pitched one scoreless inning.

At the plate
Carlos Ruiz had three singles and an RBI double for the Phillies. Marlon Byrd had four singles, including one with two outs in the top of the ninth. The hit loaded the bases for Ryan Howard, who struck out against Vic Black to end the game.

d’Arnaud, the former Phillies prospect who was traded to Toronto for Roy Halladay before joining the Mets in a later deal, doubled twice and homered. Juan Lagares had a two-run double with two outs in the first inning for the Mets.

In the field
Byrd made a terrific running catch to save extra bases and probably a run in the fourth inning. Howard dropped an easy throw to first in that inning for an error.

Lineup stuff
Chase Utley did not play. He was just getting a rest, according to manager Ryne Sandberg. Grady Sizemore got an extra day out of the starting lineup after colliding with Byrd in the outfield on Saturday.

Up next
Cole Hamels (5-5, 2.72) pitches Tuesday night against Mets’ right-hander Dillon Gee (4-3, 3.49).
