BOX SCORE

Cody Asche’s two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Phillies to a 3-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Friday night.

Asche’s 10th home run of the season was the first walk-off home run of his career.

Ben Revere was on base for Asche’s homer. He singled. Asche batted second in the lineup for the first time in his career.

The Phillies are 6-2 against the Marlins at home this season.

Starting pitching report
Cole Hamels held the Marlins to one run over seven innings. He walked one and struck out six.

Hamels has a 1.90 ERA (29 earned runs in 138 innings) in 20 starts since June 1. Eighteen of those have been quality starts.

Miami right-hander Henderson Alvarez allowed seven hits and just one run over seven walk-free innings.

Bullpen report
Ken Giles struck out two more batters in a 1-2-3 eighth inning. He has 59 Ks in 40 2/3 innings. Giles has retired 23 straight batters, 12 via strikeout, since Aug. 27.

Jonathan Papelbon and Jake Diekman both pitched a scoreless inning for the Phillies. Diekman got the win.

In 34 games since Aug. 5, Phillies relievers have an ERA of 1.97, the best in the majors over that span.

Dan Jennings allowed Asche’s home run and took the loss.

At the plate
Chase Utley had two hits and a walk. He doubled in the sixth, moved up on an error and scored on a wild pitch.

The Phillies grounded into three double plays, two by Carlos Ruiz. The Phils had the bases loaded with no outs in the fourth and got nothing after Domonic Brown flied out and Ruiz hit into a double play.

The Marlins had three singles in the sixth against Hamels, including an RBI hit by Adeiny Hechavarria.

In the field
Asche made a nifty play to snuff out a run in the fourth. With a man on third, he backhanded a ball behind the bag and threw a strike to the plate to get Casey McGehee.

Utley made a nice sliding play up the middle to take a hit away from McGehee in the top of the 10th. Maikel Franco, in the game after Ryan Howard was replaced for a pinch runner, made a nice scoop at first to complete the play.

Marlins press on
The Marlins played their first game without MVP candidate Giancarlo Stanton, who was hit in the face by a pitch Thursday in Milwaukee (see story).

Minor matters
Shortstop J.P. Crawford was in the house to pick up an award (see story).

Up next
Kyle Kendrick (8-12, 4.83) and lefty Brad Hand (3-6, 4.45) are the pitchers on Saturday night.
