BOX SCORE

The Phillies rallied for a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday afternoon.

Odubel Herrera won it with an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning. The hit scored Domonic Brown, who had opened the frame with a single and moved up on a bunt by Carlos Ruiz.

Herrera capped an 11-pitch at-bat against Brad Boxberger with the line drive hit to left-center.

The Phillies are 5-1 since the All-Star break.

Starting pitching report
Lefty Adam Morgan gave up nine hits and three runs over 4⅓ innings. He took a 2-0 lead to the mound in the fifth but hit a batter and allowed a pair of one-out RBI doubles as the Rays tied the game. Tampa Bay then went ahead on a hit by James Loney against Justin De Fratus. The run was charged to Morgan.

Tampa right-hander Jake Odorizzi gave up five hits and two runs over five innings.

Bullpen report
The Phillies rallied for two runs in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead, but Jake Diekman gave up a leadoff homer in the seventh as Tampa Bay tied the game.

Ken Giles stranded two runners in the top of the eighth inning to keep the score tied at 4-4.

Jonathan Papelbon — with a lot of help from his defense — pitched two scoreless innings and got the win.

Tampa Bay’s Kevin Jepsen needed some fine defense to get out of trouble in the eighth.

Boxberger took the loss for Tampa Bay.

At the plate
The Phillies scored two in the first inning and took a 4-3 lead with two more in the sixth. Cody Asche drove in the tying run with a double off the right-field wall in the sixth. The other run scored when Tampa Bay first baseman James Loney made an error on a ground ball by Ben Revere.

The Phillies were 0 for 3 with the bases loaded. Ryan Howard hit into a double play and flied out with the bases loaded in the first and second innings, respectively. Freddy Galvis grounded into an inning-ending double play in the eighth. Tampa Bay first baseman Loney stepped on first and fired to the plate to get Asche to complete the double play. Asche was initially ruled safe, but the call was reversed after a review.

Tampa Bay’s Logan Forsythe tied the game at 4-4 with a homer off Diekman in the top of the seventh.

In the field
The Phillies’ infield made two excellent plays to get Papelbon out of trouble in the ninth. The first was a double play started by Cesar Hernandez. It was scored 4-3-6-3-4. Third baseman Andres Blanco then made a charging, bare-handed play to get Jake Elmore at first for the third out. All of this came with a runner on third.

Health check
Maikel Franco did not start for the second day in a row because of a sore right elbow. He drew a walk as a pinch hitter in the eighth. Franco could be ready to return to the lineup Friday afternoon in Chicago.

Chase Utley continues to recover from a sprained ankle. He believes he could be ready for a minor-league rehab stint soon (see story).
