BOX SCORE

The Phillies returned from the All-Star break and pulled out a 6-3 win over the Miami Marlins at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night.

The Phils scored four runs in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie.

The Phils scored the go-ahead run when Marlins centerfielder Conor Gillespie misplayed a line drive by Maikel Franco with one out in the eighth inning. Odubel Herrera, who had led off the inning with a pinch-hit single, scored on the play.

Pinch-hitter Jeff Francoeur put the game out of reach with a three-run homer later in the inning.

The win was just the Phillies’ 30th of the season. They have the majors’ worst record at 30-62.

Starting pitching report
Rookie lefty Adam Morgan’s fourth big-league start was a very good one. He allowed just two runs over 6 1/3 innings. He left the game ahead, 2-1, with a runner on base. That runner eventually scored.

Morgan gave up just four hits. He walked three and struck out three.

Morgan’s effort marked just the seventh time in the last 27 games that a Phillies starter went six innings.

Miami’s Jose Fernandez, in his third start back from Tommy John surgery, gave up two runs over six innings. He walked one and struck out six.

Bullpen report
Luis Garcia allowed an inherited runner to score in the seventh.

Ken Giles pitched a scoreless eighth and Jonathan Papelbon closed it out in a non-save situation. Papelbon survived a ninth-inning homer to J.T. Realmuto. Giles got the win.

Bryan Morris allowed two unearned runs in the eighth and took the loss.

Lefty Mike Dunn gave up Francoeur’s three-run homer in the eighth.

At the plate
The Phils trailed, 2-1, but pulled ahead with a pair of runs in the sixth. Morgan doubled off Fernandez for his first big-league hit and scored one of the runs on a groundout. The other scored on a two-out hit by Ryan Howard.

Gillespie tied the game with double in the seventh.
