BOX SCORE

The Phillies beat the New York Mets, 6-5, in a 14-inning game that ended at 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Reid Brignac won it for the Phillies with a bases-loaded hit with no outs in the 14th. It scored Marlon Byrd. The hit came off Jenrry Mejia.

The run was unearned as Byrd reached base on a two-base error by rightfielder Chris Young. Young dropped a fly ball. Carlos Ruiz followed Byrd’s at-bat with a single and pinch-hitter Cesar Hernandez was walked intentionally, loading the bases for Brignac.

Brignac’s hit ended an 8½-inning scoring drought for the two teams. It was his first RBI with the Phillies.

The Phillies' bullpen pitched seven shutout innings.

The game lasted five hours, 23 minutes.

Bullpen report
Mike Adams walked a tightrope but ended up with another clutch outing for the Phillies. He loaded the bases on three walks in a tie game in the top of the ninth, but got out of the inning by striking out Bobby Abreu on three pitches, including a finishing changeup.

Jonathan Papelbon allowed two hits in the 10th but pitched out of trouble.

Mario Hollands pitched a scoreless 12th.

At the plate

Jimmy Rollins had two hits. He is 12 shy of breaking Mike Schmidt’s franchise record of 2,234.

Abreu started in right field for the Mets. He walked and scored a run in the second. He doubled in two runs in the fifth. He singled and stole his 400th career base in the eighth.

In the field
Mets third baseman David Wright saved a run with a nice running, over-the-shoulder catch on Chase Utley’s flare to shallow left to end the fourth.

Byrd made a nice sliding catch to take a hit away from Wright in the seventh.

Lineup stuff
Brignac made his first start since joining the team. He played third base. Hernandez played poorly at the position Thursday night. Sandberg said the promotion of third base prospect Maikel Franco was not imminent.

Health check
Cliff Lee reports that his elbow is getting better, but he still feels some discomfort in his strained flexor-pronator tendon and is not ready to throw.
