BOX SCORE

Led by solid pitching from David Buchanan and a bases-loaded double from Ryan Howard in the first inning, the Phillies cruised to an easy 9-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night.

The win was the Phillies’ second in a row and 11th in the 13 games since the All-Star break and caps off a 13-12 month. July was the Phillies’ first winning month since going 14-12 in August of 2014.

Howard’s double drove in three runs in the four-run first. He drove in another run with a bases-loaded walk in the five-run fifth, and scored ahead of Dom Brown’s two-run homer — his second in as many days.

Starting pitching report
Buchanan allowed three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings to pick up his second win of the season. Buchanan fell just one out shy of the longest outing of his big-league career and did not walk any hitters.

The Braves’ Williams Perez lasted just 4 1/3 innings and was charged with nine earned runs on nine hits and four walks.

Bullpen report
Justin De Fratus finished up the eighth inning before turning the game over to Dalier Hinojosa for a 1-2-3 ninth.

Hinojosa appeared in his second big-league game and made his debut for the Phillies after being picked up off waivers from the Red Sox on July 15.

At the plate
Howard had his first four-RBI game of the season. After going 2 for 3 with a pair of walks, Howard leads the club with 59 RBIs in 94 games.

Meanwhile, Brown's second homer of the season marked the first time he has hit homers in back-to-back games since June 2 and 3, 2013 when he was in the midst of a streak in which he hit 11 homers in 15 games.

Cesar Hernandez also picked up a pair of hits for the Phillies and is 4 for 9 in the first two games of the series.

Freddie Freeman clubbed a two-run homer off Buchanan with one out in the eighth for his 14th of the season and 100th of his career.

Transaction
After the completion of the blockbuster Cole Hamels trade, the Phillies placed right-handed pitcher Matt Harrison on the 15-day disabled list with lower-back inflammation. Harrison is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three outings this season.

Up next
The series against the Braves continues on Saturday night in a battle of rookies when Aaron Nola (1-1, 3.29) takes on Matt Wisler (5-1, 3.43). Nola will be making his third career start and Wisler will go for the eighth time.
