BOX SCORE

MILWAUKEE – The Phillies produced nine runs, as many as they had in their previous four games, in beating the Milwaukee Brewers, 9-7, on Tuesday night.

The Phils trailed, 5-1, after the first inning, but came back with five runs in the second to take the lead.

The victory marked the first time the Phils have won two in a row since June 19-20.

Milwaukee has lost seven of its last eight to see its lead over St. Louis in the NL Central shrink to three games.

Starting pitching report
Kyle Kendrick’s problems in the first inning continued as he allowed two home runs, including a grand slam in the frame. The five runs allowed in the first inning left him with a 10.50 ERA in the first inning of his 18 starts.

The Phillies’ hitters responded with five runs in the top of the second to get Kendrick the lead. Kendrick put up zeroes in the second through fifth innings before allowing a two-run homer in the sixth. He left the game with the Phillies ahead by two runs and picked up his second straight win.

All seven of the runs that Kendrick allowed in 5 2/3 innings came on three home runs.

Milwaukee’s Wily Peralta was not good. He allowed eight hits and nine runs over 4 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out four. Peralta entered the second inning with a 5-1 lead and squandered it.

Bullpen report
Justin De Fratus came on and retired dangerous Aramis Ramirez with men on second and third to end the sixth inning and preserve the Phillies’ 9-7 lead.

Jake Diekman registered two strikeouts and Ken Giles pitched out of trouble in the eighth for another scoreless inning. Giles has allowed just one run in 12 2/3 innings since coming to the majors. That run came on a home run in his first inning of work.

Jonathan Papelbon notched his second save in as many nights and 21st of the season.

After the game, the Phillies sent reliever B.J. Rosenberg to Triple A. They will activate Jeff Manship from the disabled list on Wednesday.

At the plate
Domonic Brown led the Phillies’ offense with a solo homer and a two-run single in the fifth. The home run was Brown’s first since June 14, a span of 75 plate appearances. He had gone 15 games without an extra-base hit.

Chase Utley had a big night with three RBIs. Two of those RBIs came in the Phils' five-run second. Ben Revere had a two-run double in that inning.

The Phillies were 4 for 8 with runners in scoring position.

Jimmy Rollins is 0 for his last 18.

Lyle Overbay belted a grand slam off Kendrick. Scooter Gennett and Mark Reynolds also homered off Kendrick.

Health check
Cliff Lee will make a minor-league rehab start for Clearwater on Wednesday night. Wil Nieves, on the DL recovering from a quad strain, will catch Lee.

Lee has been on the DL since May 20 with an elbow strain. This will be his second rehab start. He is expected to return to the big-league rotation right after the all-star break.

Roster move
Following the game, the Phillies optioned B.J. Rosenberg to Triple A Lehigh Valley and reinstated Jeff Manship from the 15-day disabled list.

Up next
Roberto Hernandez (3-8, 4.48) pitches Wednesday night against Milwaukee’s Kyle Lohse (9-3, 3.18).
