BOX SCORE

BOSTON — In a battle of last-place teams, the Phillies were clearly the inferior one on the field this weekend. The Phils were swept in a three-game series by the Boston Red Sox. The Phils dropped Sunday afternoon’s finale by a score of 6-2 at Fenway Park.

The Phillies have been swept 11 times this season.

The Phils were outscored 22-9 in the series. They are a majors-worst 53-84 on the season.

Starting pitching report
Jerad Eickhoff was hit hard in his fourth big-league start. He gave up eight hits, including a two-run homer to David Ortiz in the first inning, and six runs in four innings. Eickhoff allowed seven straight baserunners to open the bottom of the second and the Red Sox scored four times in the inning.

Eickhoff is 1-3 with a 4.70 ERA.

Boston lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (9-5) gave up eight hits and a run over seven innings to get the win. He walked one and struck out nine.

Bullpen report
Dalier Hinojosa pitched two scoreless innings for the Phillies.

Junichi Tazawa and Robbie Ross Jr. closed it out for Boston.

At the plate
Cesar Hernandez drove in the Phillies’ first run with a base hit in the third.

Odubel Herrera’s second hit of the day, a single in the seventh, upped his season batting average to .300. He then went above that with an RBI single, his third hit of the day, in the ninth.

Herrera is 73 for 199 (.367) in his last 54 games.

Ortiz got the Red Sox on the board with a two-run home run in the first inning. It was his second in as many days against the Phillies, 31st of the season and 497th of his career.

In the field
Boston centerfielder Mookie Betts made a long run and reached over the wall into his team’s bullpen to steal a home run away from Darin Ruf in the fourth inning. Ruf crushed the ball, which would have been a home run in most parks, but Betts made a sensational play.

Health check
Catcher Cameron Rupp did not start for the second straight day because of soreness in his right forearm. He was hit by a pitch on Friday night. He is expected to return to the lineup Monday night. Erik Kratz got the start behind the plate.

Maikel Franco will have his fractured left wrist examined Tuesday in Philadelphia. It’s not known whether he will play again this season. He can recoup lost time by playing winter ball in his native Dominican Republic.

Up next
The Phillies return home to open a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves on Monday night. The Phillies have not named a starting pitcher for the third game. It’s possible Jerome Williams could get that start as the Phillies shift to a six-man starting rotation. Here are the pitching matchups:

Monday night — RHP Aaron Harang (5-14, 4.89) vs. RHP Williams Perez (4-6, 5.65)
Tuesday night — RHP Aaron Nola (5-2, 4.02) vs. RHP Matt Wisler (5-6, 5.97)
Wednesday night — TBA vs. RHP Julio Teheran (9-7, 4.51)
