BOX SCORE

DENVER -- The Phillies began a 10-game road trip with their most one-sided loss of the season Friday night.

The Colorado Rockies jumped on right-hander Jonathan Pettibone for four runs in the first inning and three more in the second en route to pummeling the Phillies, 12-1, at Coors Field.

Colorado right-hander Tyler Chatwood held the Phillies to two hits over seven innings for the win.

The Phillies’ offense has scored just two runs the last three games.

The Phils have lost three of their last four to fall to 7-9. Colorado is 9-9.

Starting pitching report
Pettibone had a miserable outing. He lasted just four innings and was tagged for nine hits and eight runs.

Pettibone has made two career starts at Coors Field; his first was last summer. The totals in those two starts: seven innings, 19 hits, 15 runs.

Pettitbone opened the season in Triple A and has made two starts with the big club this season. He is a likely candidate to go back to Triple A as the Phillies must clear a roster spot to add Cole Hamels to the rotation on Wednesday (see story).

Chatwood allowed two singles, both in the fifth inning. The only run he allowed was unearned. He walked one and struck out six.

Bullpen report
Mike Adams pitched for the first time since June 19 and recorded a 1-2-3 fifth inning. His fastball reached 90 mph. Adams had shoulder surgery in July.

B.J. Rosenberg allowed two runs in the eighth.

At the plate
The Phillies were out-hit, 18-2.

The Phils did not get their first hit until Cody Asche singled with two outs in the fifth. Jayson Nix drove in the Phils’ run with a pinch-hit single.

Colorado’s Troy Tulowitzki singled, doubled and homered on his way to five RBIs. He had a three-run homer in the second and drew an impressive 14-pitch walk (he fouled off eight pitches) in the first inning. Justin Morneau added a two-run double for the Rockies.

Charlie Blackmon and Drew Stubbs, the top two hitters in the Rockies’ lineup, combined for six hits and five runs.

The Rockies were an eye-popping 8 for 16 with runners in scoring position.

Up next
Kyle Kendrick (0-1, 3.50) opposes right-hander Jordan Lyles (2-0, 4.32) on Saturday night.
