PHOENIX — Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco left Tuesday night's game in pain after being hit on the left wrist by a pitch from Arizona right-hander Jeremy Hellickson in the first inning.

X-rays came back negative. Franco was diagnosed with a wrist contusion, but he still could miss time.

"It's still pretty sore," Franco said after the game. "When it hit me, I was worried something bad happened. I was scared. I thought it might be broken. I'm lucky."

Franco wasn't sure how much time he would miss. It's likely he will sit out Wednesday's game. Thursday is an off day.

"We'll see tomorrow," he said.

Franco was the third batter of the game. He went to the ground in pain after being hit.

Franco has been the Phillies' best player since coming to the majors in May. He has played himself into NL Rookie of the Year consideration. He has 22 doubles, tying him for the most among NL rookies with teammate Odubel Herrera. He leads all major-league rookies in slugging (.490) and OPS (.828.)

Overall, Franco is hitting .277 with 13 homers and 48 RBIs in 77 games.
