Update: Dec. 17, 2013 (2:15 p.m.)

The Yankees have added depth this offseason to replace the loss of Robinson Cano, and they may be a better team for it. After signing catcher Brian McCann, centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, rightfielder Carlos Beltran, shortstop Brendan Ryan and infielder Kelly Johnson, the Yankees agreed to sign lefty reliever Matt Thornton and long-time Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts.

Between Johnson and Roberts, the Yankees should be set up at second base and third base. Roberts, though, has a lengthy injury history. He's missed 456 games over the last four seasons.

Meanwhile, Roberts' old team, Baltimore, agreed to a two-year, $14 million deal with closer Grant Balfour.

(Players extended qualifying offers denoted by * -- signing team must forfeit first-round pick unless drafting in top-10. If drafting in top-10 (Phillies do), team forfeits second-round pick.)
