On Thursday night, Ryan Howard slugged a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning to lead the Phillies to a 6-5 win (see story).

It was fitting given that his former manager, Charlie Manuel, who helped mold the first baseman as a hitter, is being inducted into the Phillies' Wall of Fame on Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Hitting is exactly what Howard remembers most fondly about Manuel.

"One of the biggest Charlie moments for me was minor leagues when Charlie used to come through Double A and Triple A and just work with me, helping me out, teaching me the woes, the good and bad of hitting," Howard said.

A segment "The Book of Manuel" is running all week on SportsNet Central, featuring favorite Manuel memories from his former players, coaches and colleagues.

Juan Samuel, Ruben Amaro Jr., Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins have already provided their favorite memories of Manuel.

To hear more from Howard on his memory, which includes his record-setting season at Double A Reading, watch the video above.
