Amaro's assistant Proefrock to interview with Orioles

Phillies officials are in demand these days.

Scott Proefrock, the teams assistant general manager, will interview for the vacant Baltimore Orioles general managers position on Thursday, an industry source said Wednesday.

Proefrock is one of a number of Phillies officials who have been pursued by other clubs this offseason.

Jim Fregosi Jr., one of the teams top major league scouts, left the organization for a high-level front-office position with the Kansas City Royals.

Mark Parent, who managed the Phils Double A Reading club in 2011, left to become the Chicago White Sox bench coach.

Big-league bench coach Pete Mackanin has interviewed for the Boston Red Sox vacant managers post.

And on Wednesday, the Phils granted the St. Louis Cardinals permission to interview Ryne Sandberg for their vacant managers post. Sandberg managed the Phils Triple A team in 2011.

Proefrock, 51, has been with the Phillies for three seasons. Before joining the Phils, he was Baltimores director of baseball administration for three seasons. The Orioles are seeking a replacement for Andy MacPhail, who resigned after the 2011 season, the clubs 14th straight losing campaign. Two highly regarded executives, Jerry DiPoto and Tony LaCava, have already turned down the job. DiPoto became the Angels GM and LaCava stayed with the Blue Jays.

Proefrock is one of Amaros most trusted aides. Amaro and club president David Montgomery have both credited Proefrocks behind-the-scenes diligence as an important factor in the clubs signing Cliff Lee last winter.
