Only a day after being dismissed as the Phillies’ manager, Charlie Manuel followed through with a previous commitment: an autograph signing for the fans.
The event took place at the Granite Run Mall and scores of fans showed up to meet Manuel. Asked what it was like to see such a turnout, Manuel replied:
“It’s absolutely amazing. Yeah, it’s great. Good."
Signing autographs and greeting the fans wasn’t the easiest to do in such a quick turnaround for Manuel, who admitted to getting emotional.
“It’s very emotional…everything about it.” Manuel said. “It’s good to see every one of them. I love every one of them. And all of them are Phillies fans, and that makes it even better.”
As for Friday night’s game against the Dodgers, the first game Manuel wasn’t managing the Phillies since 2004, did he watch it?
“I watched [the game] on TV. It was kind of different,” he said, “but definitely I was pulling for them to win, and I was upset when they didn’t win, of course. As always.”
