The Phillies on Sunday placed right-handed reliever Jeff Manship on the 15-day disabled list with a right quad strain and optioned first baseman/outfielder Darin Ruf to Triple A Lehigh Valley.
To take their places on the 25-man roster, the Phils recalled right-hander Phillippe Aumont from Lehigh Valley and selected the contract of left-hander Cesar Jimenez. In order to clear 40-man space for Jimenez, left-hander Jeremy Horst was designated for assignment.
Manship threw four perfect innings with six strikeouts before exiting Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the New York Mets (see story). He was slated to pitch a fifth inning but was injured while trying to leg out an infield hit in the 13th.
In 16 games this season, Manship is 1-1 with a 5.89 ERA. He's allowed 12 runs on 17 hits and 11 walks in 18 1/3 innings of work.
Ruf has appeared in seven games for the Phils this season, going 1 for 10 with a walk and four strikeouts at the plate. His lone hit was a solo home run in a 6-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies on May 27.
Aumont and Jimenez have not appeared in the big leagues this season. Both pitchers will be available for Sunday afternoon's game against the Mets.
