Lehigh Valley pitcher Zach Eflin and Reading catcher Jorge Alfaro on Monday were rewarded for their early season play.

Eflin was named International League Pitcher of the Week, and Alfaro was named Eastern League Player of the Week.

Eflin was 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA in his first two Triple-A starts. Over 14 innings, Eflin allowed eight hits, two walks, and one run. He also picked up eight strikeouts. Eflin is the first IronPigs pitcher to win the award since Jerad Eickhoff in 2015.

At Double-A Reading, the Phillies’ top catching prospect is off to a hot start as well.

In eight games, Alfaro’s batting line is at .500/.526/.750. He’s hit four doubles, one triple and one home run. Alfaro has also recorded 10 RBI and scored seven runs for Reading.

Alfaro’s early season numbers have him ranked among the Eastern League’s top hitters. He leads the league in batting average (.500) and hits (18), and is second in on-base percentage (.526), OPS (1.276) and doubles (4).
