The Phillies made a change in the bullpen Friday, recalling right-hander B.J. Rosenberg from Triple A to replace Raul Valdes, who was optioned to Lehigh Valley.

The 27-year-old Rosenberg made 22 appearances for the Phillies last season and had a 6.12 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 25 innings. He walked 14 and was taken deep four times.

He started seven games at Lehigh Valley this season and went 1-3 with a 4.30 ERA. Rosenberg, who throws a fastball in the mid-high 90s, experienced a drastic drop-off in strikeouts as he transitioned from reliever to starter and worked more on his offspeed stuff.

Valdes wasn’t able to build on the success he had last season, when he posted a 2.90 ERA.

He allowed runs in six of 10 appearances this year and had 17 runs scored off him in 20 innings. Opponents hit .300 with five homers and eight doubles in 80 at-bats.
