Amaro: ‘Utley is doing very, very well'

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. continues to receive positive reports on Chase Utleys offseason condition.

According to Amaro, Utley is now doing baseball activity five days a week. Scott Sheridan, the Phillies head athletic trainer, is watching Utleys workouts this week in California.

Chase is doing very, very well, Amaro said Wednesday. Scott has been with him the last couple of days and he says Chase looks great and is feeling great. We hope it continues.

Utley missed significant time the last two seasons with cartilage-related knee issues. He found that the condition was less painful if he continued to do baseball activity all winter. Utley, 34, has not played in a spring-training game since 2010. The Phils are hopeful that he will be able to play in games this spring and be ready for opening day.
