Freddy Galvis' back injury may be much more serious than initially expected.

On the disabled list after suffering what initially was called a back strain in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers, Galvis may actually have a pars fracture in his back, according to CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury.

A pars fracture is a crack in the spine that is treated with a brace and rest. Galvis is planning to get a second opinion.

News not good on Galvis. Possible Pars fracture in back. Out a while. Jim Salisbury (@JSalisburyCSN) June 9, 2012One of the bright spots for the Phils this season, Galvis rebounded from a slow start and is hitting .226 this season with three home runs, 24 RBIs and 15 doubles while playing an outstanding second base in place of the injured Chase Utley.

Out all season with knee problems, Utley participated in extended spring training games earlier this week.
