Charlie Manuel has been suspended one game by Major League Baseball for his on-field confrontation with umpire Bob Davidson in the eighth inning of Tuesdays home win over the Astros.
Manuel will serve his suspension Friday night, missing the series opener against the Boston Red Sox.
Davidson was also suspended by the commissioners office for repeated violations of the Office of the Commissioner's standards for situation handling.
Cliff Lee struck out the Astros Jason Castro, but the ball got away from catcher Brian Schneider and when Schneider turned to run to recover it, he was delayed slightly by an obstructing Davidson.
After apparent comments by someone in the Phillies dugout, Davidson removed his mask and yelled You think I wanted to block his ass?
When Manuel responded, Davidson shouted back and gave him a quick hook, leading to a demonstrative, nose-to-nose argument at home plate.
Davidson, known as Balkin Bob for his penchant for calling balks, was described as an angry old man by a 2011 publication evaluating umpires.
