Phillies activate Utley from disabled list

It's official.

Chase Utley is back.

The Phillies have activated Utley from the disabled list and sent infielder Michael Martinez to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Utley will bat third and play second base tonight against the Pirates and righthander James McDonald, who is 6-3 with a 2.19 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. For more on McDonald, see our game notes.

Out all season with a chronic knee injury (bilateral chondromalacia), Utley hit .156 in 32 at-bats in his rehab stint with Single-A Clearwater with one home run, five RBIs, three walks and three runs.

He finished his rehab assignment Tuesday night with Lehigh Valley, going 2 for 5 with a home run. He played all nine innings at second base.
