Report: Phillies, Angels have discussed Ben Revere trade

Between the players currently on the big-league roster and those getting seasoning down in Triple A, the Phillies appear to have a logjam in the outfield. But who will be the odd man out?

According to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, the Phillies and Angels have recently discussed a trade involving Ben Revere. Los Angeles has been scouting the Phillies’ outfielder, but the two sides have failed to agree on any compensation to this point.

Revere, who moved to left field this year from center, was hitting .258 with 12 RBI and 17 runs scored in 169 plate appearances heading into the Phillies' 4-2 win over the Rockies on Wednesday (see Instant Replay). He is getting on base at a .302 clip, walking nine times already, which is only four less than all of last year.

Despite Revere's numbers, they may not be enough to keep him in red pinstripes with such a crowded group of outfielders.

Cody Asche was sent back down to the minors to get some work in left field with Maikel Franco getting a chance at third in the majors. There were murmurs that the odd man out could be Grady Sizemore given that he doesn’t fit into the team’s future plans, but he’s been swinging a hot bat over the last couple of weeks.

And don’t forget about Domonic Brown. Brown has been in Lehigh Valley since getting a late jump on the season because of an Achilles injury. The 2013 All-Star is off to a strong start in Triple A, hitting .273 with six extra-base hits, 12 runs scored and 16 RBIs in 121 at-bats.
