Charlie Manuel is back with the Phillies.

Manuel, fired as manager in August, has accepted a position with the ballclub, a person with knowledge of the situation told, confirming a report by Brian Startare of 97.5 The Fanatic.

Manuel, who turned 70 earlier this month, will be a senior adviser to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. He will hold a similar position as Dallas Green. Manuel and Green, of course, are the only managers in club history to win a World Series. Manuel presided over the 2008 club, Green the 1980 club. Manuel won five NL East titles and two NL pennants during his time as Phils manager.

In his new role, Manuel is expected to work with minor-league hitters, evaluate minor-league players and handle scouting assignments during the regular season.

On the day he let Manuel go, Amaro wept as he talked about what Manuel had meant to the franchise. Amaro has often talked about how much he wanted Manuel to stay in the organization. Manuel spent several months mulling the Phillies’ offer and, according to a source, accepted it on Tuesday night.

Manuel could not be immediately reached for comment. It is unclear when the agreement will be announced officially.
