A not-so-familiar name will be in right field Sunday for the Phillies’ rubber match against the Royals.

Ezequiel Carrera gets the start in right and is slated to hit eighth.

Carrera, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound lefty, was claimed off waivers on Tuesday and made his Phillies debut Saturday night as a pinch runner in the ninth inning.

In 2012, the 25-year-old hit .272 and scored 20 runs in 147 at-bats with the Indians. The Venezuelan made his major-league debut in 2011 and during his time with Triple A Columbus last season, Carrera put together a 20-game hitting streak, hit .294 in 394 at-bats and stole 26 bases.

Erik Kratz is back behind the plate after a night off Saturday and will hit seventh.

The Phillies are up against Kansas City’s James Shields, who they saw last season at Citizens Bank Park when Shields pitched for the Rays (see game notes). The Phillies tabbed him for seven hits and five runs over five innings. Jimmy Rollins and Juan Pierre each took him deep.

When was the last time the Phils saw Shields prior to last season? That would be the 2008 World Series, when Shields beat the Phillies in Game 2 for the Rays’ only win of the Fall Classic.
