July 7, 2013, 12:30 pm

Darin Ruf will make his first start of the season when the Phillies take on the Atlanta Braves in Sunday's series finale.

Ruf, who joined the Phils on Saturday after Ryan Howard was placed on the disabled list, will take over duties at first base and hit seventh.

The 26-year-old was hitting .266 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs in 82 games at Triple A Lehigh Valley. Ruf, a first baseman by trade, had been playing mostly left field with the IronPigs.

Laynce Nix started at first in place of Howard on Saturday and was relieved by Ruf in the eighth inning. Ruf went 1 for 2 at the plate with a run scored in his first MLB action since last October.

Charlie Manuel made one other change to his lineup card. Jimmy Rollins was moved up to the two-hole in the batting order and Chase Utley was bumped down to the three-spot.

Rookie right-hander Jonathan Pettibone (4-3, 3.99 ERA) will make his 15th start of the season for the Phils. He allowed just one run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings in his last start, a 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Right-hander Kris Medlen (6-7, 3.11 ERA) will be on the hill for the Braves. He has gone 5-1 with a 2.50 ERA in his past six starts.
